Day 4-Dubai to Venice-Suez Canal Cruise-Salalah, Oman and a CASINO WIN

Our first port this morning is Salalah, Oman. It is a bus tour ending with shopping at an authentic souk,  hot and dusty. Have always felt sorry for the women who seem to be tied to their homes. After being at the Souk, I think they are lucky to be at home and not having to work in this environment. Only one visible woman, and she is in the traditional long black garb with veil and scarf over her mouth revealing only her eyes.

We went to the shore (Mughsail Beach) and looked for blow holes. They weren't strong today.

            with one of the guides

          another guide with us

Sue and I asked a guide to take a picture with us. We realized he wasn't our guide so looked for ours resulting in two pictures.

The scenery is beautiful on the shore and surrounds, whether blow holes or not.

Job's Tomb location is next. Yes, Job, the Old Testament prophet and man of many ills is reportedly buried here. There is an imprint of Job's  foot. If indeed this is real, his foot was very large, giant size, a Sasquatch type.

Finally saw some camels, many just running loose. One of the guides told Owen that they don't ride those camels much anymore. Instead they use Japanese camels, Toyota Land Cruisers. No camel riding for me. Chicken.

Lots of shopping time at Al Husn Souq with vendors hawking frankincense, myrrh and other goods. Frankincense is important here, an industry. Frankincense is burning everywhere.

Tonight at dinner we are joined by a group from Canada, but their first language is Portugese so again a language barrier. They are nice: George, Solly, Jose' and Maria. They won't be permanent because they are Anytime Dining. Alas. Good thing we have each other. (We saw them often around the ship and stayed friendly. Redeemed.)

After the theater production of A Beatles Celebration, we stopped in The Casino.  Fun! It was crack the safe night with raffle tickets to get a safe combination. If the safe opened, you won a prize. First, they called Owen's number; but he didn't open the safe. Three other people were pulled, but they did not crack the safe

My raffle ticket was pulled, and I cracked the safe and won all the prizes.  I won shirts, lottery ticket, a bottle of champagne, discounts at the spa, key rings, gold coins for the slot machine. WINNER Hard to believe with all the people there that both Owen and I had our tickets drawn. Most of all, the biggest luck was mine. Fun to win.
